Before Heading for Snow Country:
- Make sure the vehicle breaks, wipers, heater and exhaust system are in good condition.
- Check car antifreeze before the cold temperature arrives.
- Check your tires whether there are in good condition. Always carry chains and install them on the drive wheels. (Front or Rear wheel drive, better if you know).
- Other things that you need to carry in the car are ice scraper, brush, shovel etc.
- Another good idea is to take water, food, warm blankets and extra clothing that can move the journey smooth.
- Always keep an updated map containing the areas of travel.
- It is recommended to put an extra car key in you pocket.
- When highway signs indicate that chains are required, you need to put on chains or else you will be issued California traffic ticket by the California Highway Patrol. You have a mile time to install your chains.
- Depending upon the weather and road conditions, Control areas can change rapidly from place to place.
- 25 or 30 miles an hour is the speed limit when chains are required.
- When removing chains, drive beyond the signs reading "End of Chain Control" to a pull-off area where you can safely remove them.
Driving Tips:
- On storm conditions or icy roads, the trips may take longer than other times of the year. An early start will reach your destination comfortability.
- Always keep your gas tank full.
- Keep windshield and windows clear.
- On highway, a speed of 65 miles per hour is safe in dry weather conditions, So keep your seat belt buckled and leave more distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead.
- Limited visibility will be there in winter. It is better to slow down, watch for flashing lights of other vehicles and move on.
